Extension of C Visa

Conditions of Application

Crew members performing duties on board an international train, aircraft or vessel the accompanying family members of the vessel crew members, and vehicle drivers engaged in international transportation services, who enter China with C Visa and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1.Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2.A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3.A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4 A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5.Letter of certification from competent departments under local people’s governments at or above the county level and from respective transportation company in civil aviation, railway, highway or port; and 

6. Other documents required by public security organs. 

Extension of F Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners who enter China with F Visa and come to Guangzhou for the purposes of exchanges, visits, study tours or other relevant activities and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1.Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3 .A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4 .A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Letter of certification from host organization in Guangzhou;

6. Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of registration certificates of the aforesaid organization (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person; 

Extension of G Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners who enter China with G Visa for the purpose of transit and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:
1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;
2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;
3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;
4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;
5. Letter of certification from host organization and an air/train/ship ticket with a confirmed date and seat to the destination country or region.

Extension of J-2 Visa

Conditions of Application 

Foreign journalists who enter China with J-2 Visa for the purpose of short-term news coverage and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents
When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:
1.Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;
2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;
3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;
4.A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;
5.Official letter of certification issued by the foreign affairs office of the people’s government at the provincial level;

Extension of L Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners who come to China as tourists with L Visa and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Other documents relating to the application matters:

1) For a holder of individual L Visa, travel plans and itinerary;

2) For a holder of group L Visa, letter of certification from host travel agency for the purpose of applying for visa extension;

Extension of M Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners who enter China with M Visa engaging in commercial trade activities in Guangzhou and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;
5. Credentials of commercial or trade partners and letters of certification for applying for extension:

1) Where a partner is an entity, photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the registration certificate of the aforesaid entity (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of the registration certificate of institution as legal person shall be submitted and letter of certificate with a seal affixed by the aforesaid entity;

2) Where a partner is an individual, the inviter’s identity card, certificate of permanent household register in Guangzhou or certificate of residence in Guangzhou and an invitation letter with the inviter’s signature shall be submitted;

Extension of Q2 Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreign relatives of Chinese citizens residing in China or foreign relatives of foreigners with permanent residence status in China, who enter China with Q2 Visa for a short-term visit and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Proof of family relationship (family members including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, siblings, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandchildren, maternal grandchildren and children’s spouses);

6. Letters provided by relatives in Guangzhou;

7. Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the following identification of relatives in Guangzhou shall be submitted:

① For residents with registered residence in Guangzhou, identity card and household register;

②For residents with registered residence not in Guangzhou, identity card and certificate of residence in Guangzhou;

③ For Hong Kong and Macao residents, “Pass for Travelling to and from Mainland China” and “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

④ For Taiwan residents, “Pass for Travelling between Mainland China and Taiwan” with valid endorsement (in case of non-local endorsement, “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou shall also be provided);

⑤For overseas Chinese, Chinese passport, evidence of permanent residence abroad and “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

⑥For foreigners holding permanent residence permits, “Permanent Residence Permit for Foreigners” (in case of non-local application, “Lodgment Registration Form for Foreigners” in Guangzhou shall also be provided).

Extension of R Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners of high talent who are needed, or specialists who are urgently needed by the State, when they enter China with R Visa and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa

Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Letters of certification provided by host organizations in Guangzhou;

6. Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the registration certificates of the aforesaid organizations (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of the registration certificate of institution as legal person);

Extension of S2 Visa

Conditions of Application

Family members of foreigners staying or residing in China for work, study or other purposes who apply for a short-term visit in China, or persons who need to stay in China for other personal matters, when they enter China with S2 Visa and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa, they shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Other documents relating to the application matters:

① For visitors of foreigners, proof of family relationship (family members including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, siblings, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandchildren, maternal grandchildren and children’s spouses), photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the passports, visas, or stay or residence permits of the persons to be visited, and letters by the aforesaid persons shall be submitted;

② For persons who receive medical help or service in Guangzhou, certificates of hospitalization or certificates of receiving medical service provided by medical institutions at or above the county level or the 2A level shall be submitted (for non-public medical institutions, registration certificates of the aforesaid institutions shall also be provided);

③ For persons who deal with other personal matters, relevant supporting documents shall be submitted;

Extension of X2 Visa

Conditions of Application

Foreigners who enter China with X2 Visa for short-term study and need to stay longer than the duration of stay specified in the visa shall apply for extension seven days prior to the expiry of the said duration.

Application Documents

When applying for visa extension, the applicant is obliged to answer relevant inquiries and submit the following documents:

1. Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2. A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3. A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4. A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. Letter of certification indicating the duration of study provided by educational or training institution in Guangzhou;

6. Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the registration certificates of the aforesaid institutions (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person;

Visa Change

1. To apply for change to F Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2) A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3) A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4) A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Letter of certification from host organization in Guangzhou;
6) Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of registration certificates of the aforesaid organization (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person);

2. To apply for change to J2 Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2) A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3) A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4) A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Official letter of certification issued by the foreign affairs office of the people’s government at the provincial level.

3. To apply for change to M Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2)A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3)A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4)A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Letter of certification from host organization in Guangzhou;

6) Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of registration certificates of the aforesaid organizations (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person).

4. To apply for change to Q2 Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2)A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3)A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4)A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Proof of family relationship (family members including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, siblings, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandchildren, maternal grandchildren and children’s spouses);

6) Letters provided by relatives in Guangzhou;

7) Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the following identification of relatives in Guangzhou shall be submitted:

① For residents with registered residence in Guangzhou, the identity card and household register;

② For residents with registered residence not in Guangzhou, the identity card and certificate of residence in Guangzhou;

③ For Hong Kong and Macao residents, “Pass for Travelling to and from Mainland China” and “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5. To apply for change to R Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2)A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3)A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4)A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Certification documents testifying that the applicant meets the qualifications and requirements set by the competent authorities of the Chinese government for inviting persons of high talent or urgently needed specialists;

6) Letter of certification from host organization in Guangzhou;

7) Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of registration certificates of the aforesaid organizations (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person); 

6. To apply for change to S2 Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2)A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3)A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4)A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Other documents relating to the application matters:

①For visitors of foreigners, proof of family relationship (family members including spouses, parents, parents-in-law, children, siblings, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandchildren, maternal grandchildren and children’s spouses), photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the passports, visas, or stay or residence permits of the persons to be visited, and letters by the aforesaid persons shall be provided;

② For persons who receive medical help or service in Guangzhou, certificates of hospitalization or certificates of receiving medical service provided by medical institutions at or above the county level or the 2A level shall be provided (for non-public medical institutions, the registration certificates of the aforesaid institution shall be submitted);

③ For foreigners who deal with other personal matters, relevant supporting documents shall be provided;

7. To apply for change to X2 Visa, the applicant is obliged to submit the following documents:

1) Original and photocopies of valid passport or other international travel documents, and the visa used in the latest entry;

2)A completed “Visa Application Form for Foreigners”;

3)A visa photo, which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

4)A valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou;

5) Letter of certification indicating the duration of study provided by educational or training institutions in Guangzhou;

6) Photocopies (to be checked against the original) of the registration certificates of the aforesaid institution (such as duplicate of the business license, duplicate of registration certificate of institution as legal person);

8. Other circumstances where change of a visa may be called for:

1) Where persons have obtained new passports because their passports are about to expire or because their visa pages have run out, they may apply for new ordinary visas. When applying, they are obliged to submit the passports used for this current entry into China, or relevant documents testifying that they have returned their passports used for this current entry into China issued by embassies or consulates of their native countries stationed in China. Such new visas shall correspond to the original visas in terms of type, validity period and duration of stay. The number of entries specified in the new visas shall be issued in accordance with the remaining valid entries specified in the original visas. 

2) Foreigners who need to add accompanying persons after entry may, on the strength of their passports used for this current entry into China and birth certificates of accompanying persons and passports of both parents, apply for new ordinary visas corresponding to the original visas in terms of type, validity period and duration of stay. The number of entries specified in the new visas shall be issued in accordance with the remaining valid entries specified in the original visas. 

3) Where foreigners who enter China with group visas apply for staying separately from the tour groups, they may, on the strength of letters of certification from host travel agencies and relevant application documents in accordance with the requirements for change to F Visa, J2 Visa, M Visa, Q2 Visa, R Visa, S2 Visa and X2 Visa, make such application.   

4) Under other circumstances where change of visa complies with the provisions of the State, such change shall be handled in accordance with the aforesaid provisions.

Visa Reissuance

Where foreigners apply for new visas because their visas are lost, stolen, robbed or damaged after entry into China, they may apply for reissue of visas that correspond to the original visas in terms of type, validity period, number of allowed entries and duration of stay. Applicants shall go through the formalities in accordance with the following provisions:

1) Where visas are lost, stolen or robbed, applicants shall submit “the confirmation of reporting the loss of passport” or notes issued by embassies or consulates of their countries stationed in China, as well as their new passports or other international travel documents.

2) Where visas are damaged, applicants shall submit the damaged passports or notes issued by embassies or consulates of their countries stationed in China, as well as their new passports or other international travel documents.

3) Where group visas are lost, stolen, robbed or damaged, applicants shall submit “the receipt of reporting to the police” provided by the local police station, letter of certification from the local travel agency and photocopies of the said group visas;

4) Applicants shall, in addition to the aforesaid documents, submit their valid “Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors” in Guangzhou, a visa photograph which has met the requirement of the Entry/Exit Administration Department of Public Security of Guangdong Province, and a Receipt of China Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province;

5) Other documents required by public security organs.

Notices:

1. Foreigners who apply for visas, stay permits or residence permits, shall visit the website WWW.GZJD.GOV.CN, and select “FOREIGNER” part to make an online appointment at “application section”, or go in person to the Division of Exit/Entry Administration of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, and visit the “Area of Online Application for Overseas Personnel” to make an on-the-spot appointment on the computers. The units which provide letters of certification to foreigners in application for visas, stay permits or residence permits, also need to visit the website WWW.GZJD.GOV.CN and enter “Application Section” to file records online at “Filing Records for Foreign-related Units” part. The units which have passed the inspection of record-filing do not need to submit registration certificates again.       

2. Foreigners who apply for extension of the duration of stay shall apply to the exit/entry administration authorities of public security organs seven days prior to the expiry of the validity period specified in their visas and stay permits.  
Foreigners who apply for extension of the duration of residence shall apply to the exit/entry administration authorities of public security organs 30 days prior to the expiry of the validity period specified in their residence permits.  
Handling and issuing visas and stay permits need seven working days and handling and issuing residence permits need 15 working days. 

3. Where children under the age of 16 who hold foreign passports, for the first time, apply for visas, stay permits or residence permits in Guangzhou, for the purpose of confirming nationalities, they shall, submit their own birth certificates, photocopies of their foreign parents’ passports or photocopies of their Chinese parents’ passports and certificates of permanent residence in the country of residence (to be checked against the original). 

4. In accordance with Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China, China does not recognize dual nationality. For applicants who have been naturalized as foreign nationals, only after they have cancelled their Chinese household registers, can they apply for visas, stay permits or residence permits for foreigners.

5. Proof of family relationship and kinship refer to proof of marriage, birth certificate, proof of fosterage, other proof of kinship issued by competent departments of the State, and corresponding documents notarized by notary organs, as well as proof of marriage, birth certificate and proof of kinship issued by embassies and consulates of residing countries stationed in China. 

6. Proof of marriage, birth certificate, proof of kinship, or proof of information change such as name, which is issued by overseas institutions, shall be authenticated by Chinese embassy or consulates in the country of residence. 

7. Relevant documents in foreign languages shall be translated into Chinese by organs of domestic notarization.

8. Foreigners who apply for visas,stay permits or residence permits must pay fees in accordance with relevant regulations of competent departments of the Chinese government.

9. Validity period and number of entries specified in visas, stay permits or residence permits shall be in accordance with the final decisions made by exit/entry administration departments of public security organs.

10. Decisions made by exit/entry administrations of public security organs on rejecting applications for visa extension, change or reissuance, or on not issuing foreigners’ stay permits or residence permits, or on not extending the duration of residence shall be final. The exit/entry administrations of public security organs have the power to cancel the issued visas, stay permits or residence permits or declare them null and void.   

11. Foreigners who reside or stay in China illegally or commit other illegal acts or persons held responsible shall, in accordance with the law, be punished by public security organs.
