Biopharmaceutical talents and companies in Nansha District proactively conducted R&D of epidemic prevention and control technologies, providing full technological support. Guangzhou Genetron Medical Test Lab Co., Ltd., has collaborated with its Beijing Headquarters in successfully developing a nucleic acid detection kit used for the detection of the novel coronavirus. At present, the kit has been in the emergency approval process of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). At the same time, Genetron has quickly established a system for R&D and production of the kit and detection services, facilitating the epidemic prevention and control with both kits and detection services.

AI companies in Nansha District have rendered strong support for the epidemic prevention and control through the R&D of "black technologies". The infrared thermometers produced by Guangzhou Purple River Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. have been listed as critical emergency supplies fighting against the epidemic by the city. Since Lunar New Year's Eve, the company has had employees worked overtime and delivered 59 sets of stationary infrared thermometers. Now the devices have been installed in the shopping malls, transportation hubs, public institutions and companies in the city to monitor the temperature of citizens passing by in real time and automatically send an alert once any abnormality in temperature is detected. This has significantly boosted the efficiency of epidemic prevention and control in populated places and protected the general public.

Experts in Nansha District have been offering advice and suggestions to the district party committee and government on isolating and blocking the source of infection and stabilizing the social minds, and providing bases for informed decision-making. Among them, Dr. Wei Li, a researcher at Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute, has written a report of thousands of words: Methods and Strategies for Blocking the Transmission of Viruses from the Perspective of Environmental Protection.

Additionally, the vast number of experts and professionals in the District have been sourcing overseas medical supplies by contacting their alumnus and alumna and friends to help alleviate the shortage of resources. Dark Matter AI (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. purchased 100,000 surgical face masks from America and donated them to Nansha District; Zhaoke Pharmaceutical (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. donated more than 24,000 pieces of urgently needed medical supplies, including recombinant human interferon α2b gel, imported medical gloves, surgical disposable face masks and KN95 face masks. 

Guangzhou International AI Industry Research Institute donated 10,000 surgical face masks and 5,000 KN95 face masks; Guangdong BONA Robot Co., Ltd. donated 20 intelligent robot vacuum cleaners with features of UV disinfection and sterilization to be used in hospitals and isolation areas, which can help ease the burden of medical care staff. What's more, the district government has also sought help from its overseas talents collaborative innovation centers to purchase the greatly needed medical supplies. For example, the center in London has assisted in the procurement of 2.65 million surgical face masks and a batch of medical protection coveralls by finding overseas channels for sourcing medical supplies like face masks, protection coveralls, disinfectant sprays and liquids.
